Microsoft to Add a New AI Button in its Keyboard

Microsoft is making a groundbreaking change to its Windows keyboards by introducing an artificial intelligence button. In addition, it is a move that marks the company’s first significant keyboard modification in almost three decades.

About the New AI Button by Microsoft

Microsoft’s executive vice president, Yusuf Mehdi, revealed that the Copilot key button will serve as the launchpad for Microsoft’s AI chatbot. Mehdi emphasized that this addition will be the “entry point into the world of AI on the PC.” Additionally, Microsoft believes it will enable people to easily participate in the AI transformation.

The Copilot, introduced in March of the previous year, seamlessly integrates AI into Microsoft’s software. It works alongside popular applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. In addition, it is currently accessible through the keyboard shortcut Windows + C.

How will it work?

Mehdi highlighted that adding the extra key will bring AI closer to Windows, from the system to the hardware. In addition, it will simplify people’s computing experience. However, it will also amplify it, leading Mehdi to declare 2024 as the year of the AI PC.

Features of the AI Button of Microsoft

Starting this month, new PCs running Windows 11 will come equipped with the Copilot keyboard button. Additionally, the upcoming Surface devices will feature the key. Microsoft did not disclose the specific computer manufacturers incorporating the button. However, they mentioned that “many of the new Windows 11 PCs will include it from our ecosystem partners.” For instance, Dell Technologies confirmed that the Copilot key would be present on its newest XPS laptops.

In cases where Copilot is unavailable or not enabled on a device, pressing the key will instead activate Windows’ search function.
