Apple has announced its support for RCS (Rich Communication Services messages) in iPhones. In addition, Google has requested Apple’s support for its own Rich Communication Services messages. RCS chat is the next-generation replacement for SMS.
About the New RCS Support of Apple
Apple has stated that they will add support for RCS Universal Profile. In addition, it is the standard set by the GSM Association in the near future. They believe that RCS Universal Profile will provide a better interoperability experience compared to SMS or MMS. Additionally, Apple has assured users that iMessage will continue to offer the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.
Furthermore, Apple will display RCS messages in green color. However, the blue color represents the messages sent from iPhones. The purpose of this color differentiation was to signify that Apple’s iMessage is the most secure choice for communication. The ongoing discussion around green and blue bubbles has exerted pressure on technology companies. In line with this, it has even prompted certain Android users to contemplate switching to iPhones.
How will it work?
RCS offers various features for carrier-based messaging. In addition, this includes support for group messaging, photos, and messaging over WiFi.
In addition to the RCS support announcement, Apple has extended free access to its life-saving Emergency SOS via satellite service for existing iPhone 14 users for another year. Initially launched for all iPhone 14 models in the U.S. and Canada, this service has expanded to the iPhone 15 lineup in 16 countries and regions.
