On June 30, YouTube will officially debut its first shopping channel in South Korea, making it a pioneer in the industry. According to Yonhap News Agency, the channel would offer a live commerce platform for businesses. In addition, it will include about 30 brands at launch.
About the Feature of YouTube
During Alphabet Inc.’s fourth-quarter earnings call in 2022, Philipp Schindler, the company’s chief business officer, underlined the objective of making YouTube more “shoppable.” This strategy goal intends to support additional content producers, grow audience and content, and open up options for advertising.
The expansion of YouTube’s capabilities and its foray into the expanding world of online purchasing are both goals of Alphabet. Live commerce has been a key focus for the company since it began operating in South Korea.
Closing Note
With its entry into the retail sector, YouTube hopes to give Korean users a fun and enjoyable purchasing experience. Last year, YouTube introduced a commerce feature to its Explore section. Additionally, it will enable producers to identify products and viewers to make purchases.
