Elon Musk’s social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, is likely to introduce a new feature. In addition, it will enable users to disable links in replies to their posts.

Independent App researcher Nima Owji identified the feature. In addition, X’s senior director for security engineering, Christopher Stanley verified the news. He also responded to a post about the new feature, indicating, “My team built this.”

Availability of X New Feature

The company has not officially announced this feature. However, its purpose remains unconfirmed. Additionally, it’s likely aimed at combating the proliferation of spam bots on the platform. As a result, it is notorious for leaving self-promotional links in reply to users’ posts.

Implications and Speculations

This feature may alleviate the frustration of users inundated by spam bots posting irrelevant links in their replies. However, it could also impede individuals attempting to fact-check a post to limit its dissemination. Currently, it’s unclear whether the new link-blocking feature will be accessible to free users. Or if similar to other recent platform announcements, it may be available for X’s paid users.

Musk’s Initiative Against Spam Bots

Since assuming control Musk’s key priority was to address the issue of spam bots. In a previous X post earlier this year, Musk announced that a “systemic purge of bots & trolls is underway.” As a result, it will pledge to identify and take legal action against those responsible for these bots.

Additionally, Musk experimented with a ‘Not a Bot’ program for new users in the Philippines and New Zealand. In addition, there is a $1 annual fee for basic features such as replying, liking, or bookmarking posts.
