Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is rolling out a low light mode to enhance video calls in dimly lit environments. This feature is part of a recent update. In addition, it will include the ability to add filters and backgrounds during video calls. As a result, it improves the overall user experience.
Benefits of Low Light Mode
The low light mode allows users to achieve better video quality during calls in low lighting conditions. It effectively reduces graininess and enhances image clarity. Thus, it will make conversations more visually appealing.
How to Use Low Light Mode on WhatsApp
To enable the low light mode during a video call, follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Connect to a video call.
- Tap on the bulb icon in the top right corner during the call.
If you find the low light mode unnecessary, you can easily turn it off.
This feature is available on both iOS and Android versions of the app. However, WhatsApp has not introduced this feature for the web app.
WhatsApp Custom Chat Themes
In addition to the low light mode, WhatsApp has launched a custom chat themes feature. This allows users to personalize their conversations with a variety of themes. Currently, select beta users can access 22 different themes, each offering up to 20 color variations.

Personalization Options
The new chat theme settings will enable users to apply a universal theme for all conversations or set individual themes for specific chats. This feature ensures that the themes are only visible to the user who applied them. As a result, it will maintain privacy for all parties involved.
