WhatsApp to Unveil New Advanced Username Feature

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is developing a feature that allows users to set up a unique username. This upcoming functionality aims to enhance user privacy. As a result, it will enable individuals to select memorable usernames for their accounts.

Wabetainfo revealed in a recent article regarding the update for Android version 2.23.11.15. Although still under development, WhatsApp will enhance user communication by introducing new safety measures. The latest beta update, version 2.24.18.2 is now available on the Google Play Store. Thus, it indicates that an advanced username feature with PIN support is in the works.

WhatsApp Enhanced Privacy Through Usernames

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is working on an advanced username feature. In addition, it will improve phone number privacy. Additionally, this feature will be available in a future update. As a result of this new feature, users will be able to manage their privacy by sharing their usernames instead of their phone numbers. Existing users may still see their phone numbers. However, users can choose to initiate new conversations using their username.

Introducing PIN Support for Added Security

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is also creating an optional PIN code feature for usernames in order to bolster privacy further. This PIN will serve as an extra layer of security. Thus, it is especially for users who are not yet on WhatsApp. Users will have the ability to create a PIN of at least four digits. Additionally, they should not contain sensitive information like their two-step verification code.

In order to prevent unsolicited messages, new contacts will need to enter the PIN before they can reach out to a username for the first time. Users must share their PIN with others in order to connect. However, existing chat participants will not require the PIN. This feature will provide users with more control over their communication. As a result, it ensures that only selected individuals can contact them initially through their username.
