WhatsApp is launching a new Lock Chat feature. In addition, this function will keep user chats “private and secure.” The new feature will give additional security to users’ conversations.
Users need to input their device password or biometric data like a fingerprint scan or face recognition. As a result, they can access any new notifications linked to these “locked chats.”
About the New Feature
WhatsApp stated in a blog post announcing the new function, “We think this feature will be great for people who share their phones with a family member or someone else is holding their phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives.”

In the upcoming months, WhatsApp plans to expand Chat Lock’s functionality. Users will be able to lock chats on their companion devices. In addition, they can set a unique password for their locked chats that differs from the phone password, among other new capabilities. How can users use the lock chat feature?
- To lock a contact or group, simply tap on its name.
- On the Contact Details page, select the Chat Lock option.
- Determine whether users want to lock their chat using biometric information or a password.
- In order to lock the private talks, enter the phone’s password or biometric lock.
