Twitter stated earlier today that starting on April 1, it will begin removing old verified markings from accounts that aren’t Twitter Blue.
Elon Musk, the CEO of the business, tweeted an update on the situation. He claims that individuals whose Twitter accounts belong to verified organizations will have their accounts verified automatically.
“We will start winding down our legacy verified program and taking away legacy verified checkmarks on April 1st. As per the Twitter verified account, people can sign up for Twitter Blue to keep their blue checkmark on Twitter. “Any individual person’s Twitter account affiliated with a verified organization automatically verifies,” Elon Musk tweeted in response to the post.
Okay, so to be clear, verified accounts that haven’t subscribed won’t have their badges deleted, asked one user.
“However, this isn’t exactly a good thing. I recall how hard people worked to become verified; it was a major objective. Additionally, it makes people stand out. The fact that you are taking it away and giving it to everyone merely undermines the checkmark’s entire purpose, said another.
“Will you undo all visibility filters imposed on all accounts over the years? Shouldn’t you entirely erase that on the “new Twitter”? I can appreciate your desire to enhance verified as a reward. However, no user should be filtered, a Twitter user retorted.
In 2022, Elon Musk gained control of Twitter. He assumed control and announced numerous revisions to the microblogging system’s rules. One of those modifications is the choice to do away with the previous verification mechanism. Elon Musk tweeted in November of last year, “Far too many corrupt legacy Blue’verification’ check marks exist, thus no choice but to eliminate legacy Blue in coming months.
