Twitter Will Now Label Tweets for Violating Hate Speech Policy

Twitter

Today, Twitter unveiled a new policy. In addition, it claims that it may increase openness around the offensive tweets on its site that are the target of disciplinary action.

About the New Policy

When tweets break Twitter’s rules, one of the company’s typical responses is to reduce their exposure. This process refers to as “visibility filtering.”

In these cases, the tweets are still accessible online. However, they are less likely to be on the feed. Because they are unavailable in search results, trends, recommended notifications, For You and Following timelines, and other areas.

Instead, readers must go directly to the author’s profile to view the tweet.

As per Twitter rules, thee may de-emphasize in replies when such enforcement occurs. In addition, the advertisements won’t run against the content.

In the past, the general public might not know about modifying a tweet this way. Currently, Twitter claims that it will alter.

How will the new policy on Twitter work?

The flagged tweets have decreased the appearance of tweets as possibly breaking its regulations but promise to “soon” start attaching visible labels to those posts.

The company does not mention any date for the full implementation of the technology.

Additionally, the business will not label all tweets whose visibility got decreased.

It claims it will initially roll out the functionality to tweets that break its Hateful Conduct code. However, it will eventually expand to other areas in the “coming months.”

According to a blog post by “Twitter Safety,” “this change will lead to more proportionate enforcement actions. In addition, they are transparent for everyone on our platform.”

The post also praised Twitter’s policing ethos, referring to it as “Freedom of Speech, not Freedom of Reach.”

Closing Note

The business says the policy measures will happen at “a tweet level only and not affect a user’s account.”The user may not shadowban or remove from the network if a tweet flagged.
