Users of the messaging app Telegram may now send each other tether (USDT), the largest stablecoin (a cryptocurrency tethered to the dollar). Transfers take place instantly after enrolling with the wallet bot.

Since April of last year, the @Wallet bot, which enables transfers in bitcoin and TON cryptocurrency, has included support for the Tether stablecoin.

How to use USDT?

Users must first sign up for the wallet bot and add it to the attachments menu in order to use the service. After that, the electronic wallet will show up as one of the options for sending files when they click the paperclip icon in a chat with another user. The next step is to select a cryptocurrency and enter a value that does not exceed the balance. Lastly, the money will move automatically.

In 2018, Telegram developers introduced the TON blockchain. However, the platform management had to discontinue it in 2020 due to requests from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The creators of the TON Foundation Community kept working on the project when it became its own autonomous entity. The Fragment platform, which operates on TON and hosts auctions of valuable nicknames and virtual phone numbers, was introduced at the end of the previous year.

Although not have a direct role in TON, Telegram still has a stake in the network, as evidenced by the fact that it built its blockchain-based auction platform Fragment on top of it in late 2017.
