Microsoft Plans to Add New Feature to the Bing

Microsoft intends to upgrade the OpenAI-based Bing conversation and search platform with a slew of new capabilities.

Microsoft vice president Yusuf Mehdi stated in an interview that in an effort to maintain its resurgent market momentum, the company may add capabilities like the capability to request and publish photographs.

How will the new feature of Microsoft help users?

Users can query Bing, “How do I make this?” after searching for an image of something like a crocheted teddy bear.

The AI program then proposes websites with “how to crochet” instructions and different types of craft projects to look at.

Mehdi claims that the visual search feature will be accessible within the next few weeks or months. It utilizes the GPT-4 framework from OpenAI. Thus, it makes it possible for so-called multimodal features to combine text and visuals.

Bing will soon add other features. In addition, it includes using third-party services like OpenTable and Wolfram Alpha through Bing chat and receiving responses that include videos and charts.

Bing’s employee demonstration during a demo in Manhattan explains a user can type in, for example, “Find me a dinner reservation for two in New York City tonight.” In addition, they will receive a link to the reservation service OpenTable.

Closing Note

According to Mehdi, “Chat really is the thing that is resonating with people and is actually transforming search.”

According to Microsoft, these clients conduct a lot more searches than other customers, with roughly 70% of those testing out the chat features using them for search-related tasks.

Without providing further details, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said last month that Bing app installations had doubled since the product’s AI-powered introduction.

In addition, Bing had grown its market share in the US market during the quarter.

The CEO claimed that while there have been improvements, problems like inaccurate or partial replies and misinformation with Bing are still being addressed.
