Meta Unveils its New Next Generation Mixed Reality Headset

Meta

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, unveiled the company’s newest mixed reality headset. The competing Quest 3 color mixed reality headsets will release before Apple. In addition, it intends to introduce VR/AR mixed reality headsets at the Apple WWDC in 2023.

About the Quest 3 of Meta

Quest 3 is the company’s upcoming headset. In addition, it will mix augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) components. Additionally, it may be 40% thinner than its predecessor. The cost of the mixed reality headset is likely to be US$ 499.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, the next Quest 3 would have an improved Qualcomm chipset. In addition, it will provide twice as much graphical capability as its forerunner. The company also promised to reveal more details about its specifications at its annual AR/VR conference on September 27.

Quest price reduction

Following a price rise for the base Quest 2 128 GB version in July 2022, Meta cut the cost of its current Quest headsets in March in an effort to boost demand.

The expensive Meta Quest Pro cost $1,500 when it was first released. However, it is now available for about $1,000. The Quest 2’s 256 GB version is now available for roughly $430, down from its $500 launch price.

The business recently declared that starting June 4 would significantly reduce the Quest 2’s prices. The base model will revert to its original pricing of $300. However, the 256 GB variant will cost $350.

Closing Note

The move is an effort by Meta to maintain its hegemony in the markets for VR headsets, where the company now has a commanding lead.

Despite this market domination, Meta’s goal of creating an immersive “metaverse” of interconnected virtual worlds is still in development. In addition, the industry is only slowly expanding outside of gaming circles.
