In addition to these stars, users will also have the option to choose voices from Awkwafina and Keegan-Michael Key, alongside a variety of generic voices. The company may announce this feature during Meta’s annual Connect conference. The celebrity voice options will be available across Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, primarily in the U.S. and other English-speaking regions.
Staying Competitive in Generative AI
The introduction of celebrity voices aligns with Meta’s broader strategy to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving field of generative AI. Tech giants like OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, and Google, under Alphabet, have been expanding their AI capabilities. Earlier this year, OpenAI launched a similar voice feature for its chatbot. However, it faced backlash when actress Scarlett Johansson accused the company of using a voice closely resembling hers without permission.
Meta Enhancing User Interaction
Meta has been actively working to enhance its AI offerings and improve their integration within its apps. Thus, it provides users with innovative ways to engage with technology.
