iOS 16.6 beta to Bring New Settings for iMessage

A few days ago, Apple made the iOS 16.6 beta available to testers. The update introduced a new setting. In addition, it may help to enable iMessage Contact Key Verification.

In Dec 2022, Cupertino business made the function public with Security Keys, encrypted iCloud Backups, and Advanced Data Protection for iCloud.

Apple had previously stated that it intended to roll out iMessage Contact Key Verification internationally in 2023. But up until today, we haven’t seen the feature in iOS.

In the Settings app, the most recent beta of iOS introduces a new setting for iMessage Contact Key Verification.

As a security measure, it enables users to confirm that they are speaking with their contact and not a fraudster pretending to be their buddy.

Apple’s messaging app enables end-to-end encryption, as users are already aware. iMessage Contact Key Verification has increased the Users’ security since it stops hackers from listening in on conversations.

How does this new feature work?

This feature will work when an attacker adds their own device to one of the user’s contact. In addition, the attacker manages to hack a cloud server to spy on the user. As a result, the function will alert users who have activated iMessage Contact Key Verification.

Apple will also offer customers the choice to compare a Contact Verification Code to determine whether a contact is original. If users can’t physically compare the code, they might relieve to know that Apple has made the privacy-friendly feature available on FaceTime and encrypted calls in addition to iMessage.

Apple claims that iMessage Contact Key Verification will protect targets from state-sponsored attacks, including journalists, activists, and public servants. In addition, the company has also included Lockdown mode on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Thus, it will shield consumers from hackers.
