Instagram Introduces New ‘Song on Profile’ Feature

Instagram

Instagram has unveiled a new feature that enables users to add a song to their profile. As shown in screenshots shared by the platform, the user’s selected music will appear prominently in the bio section. Users have the flexibility to remove or change the song whenever they wish.

Instagram Functionality and User Experience

This feature draws inspiration from the early 2000s Myspace. However, with a key difference: the songs will not autoplay when someone visits a profile. Instead, visitors can choose to play or pause the song at their convenience.

Instagram

Instagram expressed its enthusiasm in a post, stating, We’re excited to announce that you can now add a song to your profile. As a result, it will give you more ways to express yourself through music. Your profile song selection will be live until you swap out the song.

How It Works

To utilize this feature, users can navigate to the “edit profile” page and select “Add music to your profile.” They can then search for and choose a song from Instagram’s extensive library of licensed music. Additionally, it is the same library used for Reels and posts. Users can feature the music for a maximum of 30 seconds.

Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter

Instagram

Instagram is launching this feature in collaboration with singer Sabrina Carpenter. Her profile will showcase a teaser of her upcoming song, “Taste,” prior to its official release. This song will be exclusively available through this feature before it becomes widely accessible.

Testing New Profile Grid Layout

In related developments, Instagram is reportedly testing a new layout for users’ feeds. In addition, it could replace the traditional squares in the profile grid with vertical rectangles. This change is currently in the testing phase. However, some users have observed this update. As of 2022, Instagram has considered adjusting the aspect ratio of the profile grid.
