Hermes Opens a New Sustainable Leather Goods Workshop

Hermes, the upscale clothing brand, has expanded its commitment to artisanal know-how. In addition, the expansion is creating sustainable jobs by opening a new leather products workshop in Louviers, France. In addition, it will result in the creation of 280 new employees.

260 leatherworkers, saddlers, and other employees will work at the Maroquinerie de Louviers. It is the second leather goods center of the company in Normandy. In addition, in positions such as management, logistics, and human resources.

The artists will create saddles, bridles, saddles, and other small leather goods inside the workshop.

The 6,200 square meter workshop is a one-of-a-kind location for artists. In addition, French Lebanese architect Lina Ghotmeh created the workshop.

According to a press statement from the company, it was built on an industrial brownfield site using more than 500,000 bricks that were made 70 kilometers away in Louviers. It is the first industrial structure to receive the French E4C2 classification.

Hermes’ strategy for hiring new employees and providing them with training will center on working closely with regional institutions like the Pole Emploi employment service, the Greta de l’Eure adult education service, the Lycee Augustin-Boismard high school in Brionne, and the Haras National du Pin Stud.

In order to increase their versatility, craftsmen are trained in cutting and table work at the Louviers École Hermes des Savoir-faire, which debuted in 2022. The oldest of Hermes’ metiers, saddlery, is in the center of the building.

About the Workshop Building

The location of the building maximizes natural ventilation and illumination, cutting down on the demand for artificial lighting, heating, and cooling. 13 probes at a depth of 150 meters offers geothermal energy. In addition, the workshop’s energy independence is ensured by more than 2,300 square meters of solar panels.
