At its annual Made by Google event, the tech giant announced four new devices: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Tensor G4 chipset powers each device. However, the standout aspect that has everyone buzzing is the introduction of new Gemini AI features.
Google has rolled out innovative AI enhancements such as Gemini Live, Pixel screenshots, and Pixel Studio. However, it is updating older features like Magic Editor and Panorama.
Google Gemini Live
Google has introduced Gemini Live, a fresh and conversational approach to engaging with its AI chatbot. This feature appears to mimic the experience provided by ChatGPT via GPT-4o. Thus, it offers support for ten new voices. In addition, it enables users to pause Gemini mid-conversation for more natural interactions.
Additionally, Gemini Live supports hands-free functionality. As a result, it allows users to interact with the AI even when the app is running in the background or when their device is locked.
Currently, the company has rolled out Gemini Live to Gemini Advanced users on Android. Additionally, they plan to launch on iOS soon. Users of the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Gemini Advanced. Thus, it will grant them free access to Gemini Live.
Pixel Screenshots
Google has launched Pixel Studio, a dedicated app for Pixel phones. In addition, it empowers users to turn their creative concepts into reality using simple prompts. This new image generator operates on an on-device AI model. Additionally, it leverages the Tensor G4’s capabilities alongside the cloud-based Imagen 3 text-to-image model.
Google Pixel Studio
Another new feature introduced is the ability for Pixel users to organize and retrieve their captured screenshots using the advanced capabilities of Gemini. The Pixel screenshots feature analyzes the content of images, making it searchable through text prompts.
When users search for specific images, they receive links to the desired content along with relevant summaries. This functionality resembles Microsoft’s Recall feature. The company initially announced Copilot+ PCs but retracted due to privacy issues.
AI Weather Report
Google is overhauling the weather application on Pixel devices with significant AI enhancements aimed at delivering more precise forecasts. In addition, Pixel users will receive personalized weather reports generated by Gemini Nano.
Google Call Notes
The Pixel devices will also feature Call Notes, a new AI-driven capability that generates a private summary and full transcript of phone calls immediately after they conclude. A key advantage of this feature is that it operates entirely on the device. As a result, it will ensure privacy while notifying all participants that the Call Notes feature is active.
