From May 15, several features such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light, previously exclusive to Pixel devices, will become available on nearly all devices. The AI-powered Magic Editor, once a unique selling point for the Pixel 8 series, will be accessible to all eligible devices. Thus, this showcases Google’s effort to familiarize users with its proprietary tool in the face of increased competition in the AI-powered image editing market.
Subscription Model
Users will get free 10 edits per month. However, users will require a Google One subscription with 2TB of storage for more edits. Additionally, Pixel users will retain unlimited access to image edits.
Magic Editor’s Capabilities of Google
Making use of generative AI, the Magic Editor simplifies complex photo editing tasks. It enables users to reposition subjects, alter sky colors, and fill in image gaps. As a result, it promises an intuitive editing experience.
Availability and Rollout by Google
Google has announced that its AI tools will gradually become available to all Android devices with a 64-bit processor, a minimum of 3GB RAM, and running on Android 8.0 (Oreo) or above (iOS 15 and above for iPhones). The rollout is likely to commence on May 15. In addition, it can extend over subsequent weeks to all devices meeting the minimum requirements.
