Google, the US tech giant, announced the release of the first Development Preview of Android 14 last month and now released the second Developer Preview. The new edition continues to improve the experience on tablets and foldable devices while adding new privacy, security, and performance improvements, according to the industry news website GSM Arena.
According to Google’s official schedule, the first Beta release will follow this Developer Preview in April, and three more will follow in the following months. Support for allowing apps to access only particular images and videos, all of them, or none at all is included in Android 14 Developer Preview 2.

Apps can sign in using passkeys thanks to the platform API Credential Management in Android 14. According to statements, the second DP includes updates to the API based on input from DP1 and enhancements to the UI style of the account selector.
Applications aiming towards Android 14—which will initially be a small subset—will need to provide permissions to initiate background processes. The memory management system on Android has been optimized in DP2, which improves resource use when background apps are open.
Moreover, Android 14 will have fewer non-dismissible notifications and better APIs for app shops. The second Developer Preview is still solely advised for use by app developers for app testing, according to GSM Arena.
Consumers will have easier access after the first beta version launches next month. The Pixel 4a 5G and later Google smartphones can be installed with Android 14 Development Preview 2.
