Google Announced the Launch of a New Pin Privacy Feature

Google

Google Android operating system will include an “Enhanced Pin Privacy” feature in the upcoming edition. When entering the Pin on Android devices, it intends to increase security against over-the-shoulder attacks.

Owners of Android devices have a variety of security choices. Although setting up a Pin is a very common choice, others, like using biometrics, have gained recognition recently.

Android users who do use pin protection for their devices may shortly increase the process’ security. Users must presently tap on the Pin’s digits in the right order to enter a Pin. It confirms the decision with a brief animation after each digit is chosen.

It benefits the user. However, it might also notify passersby of the Pin. Android users will soon have the option to activate the Enhanced Pin Privacy feature on Android 13 devices in order to better defend against these over-the-shoulder attacks.

When the user will enter the Pin, there is no longer a visual cue because the function stops the animation. Bystanders can still learn the Pin. However, they now need to explicitly observe the user’s keypad activity in order to do so.

Users of Android 13 can activate the feature by going to Settings > Security and privacy and clicking on the cogwheel icon, there even though it is not enabled by default.

Google Pixel devices can presently download Android 13 as a development release. For devices made by other manufacturers, it’s conceivable that the feature may be set up in a different location or not at all.

Closing Thought

Most mobile phone owners may want to avoid or take extra precautions when unlocking their devices in public. Pins unlock the complete device, potentially granting potential attackers access to a wide range of sensitive information.

The animation will turn off when entering the pin on the device due to the new Enhanced Pin Privacy function. It does not stop people from viewing the device screen while entering the Pin.

Later this year, Android 13 will be made available.
