Arm Introduces New Chips for Faster Smartphone Performance

Arm unveiled two new devices aimed at boosting smartphone performance. 

About the New Chips of Arm

The first is the Arm Cortex-X4. In addition, it is a Cortex-X core from the fourth generation. Arm said that the Cortex-X4 is the fastest CPU. Additionally, it has produced to date and will deliver 15% more performance than its forerunner.

The second product is Arm Immortalis-G720. In addition, it relies on its fifth-generation GPU architecture. Due to a collaboration with MediaTek, its predecessor, the Immortalis-G715 GPU, is currently found in top products from OPPO and vivo. 

Designing and Specifications

High-geometry games and real-time 3D applications became a focus when designing Arm’s fifth-generation GPU architecture in order to bring console-quality gaming to mobile platforms.

According to Arm, the Cortex-X4 microarchitecture uses 40% less power than the Cortex-X3 in the same process. Thus, it results in faster app launches.

Arm also unveiled Arm Total Compute Solutions 2023 (TCS23). In addition, it is a brand-new mobile computing platform that will feature software upgrades and IPs, including the Immortalis GPU and Armv9 CPUs. This company’s Total Complete Solutions series includes bundles of IP for System on Chip (SoC) designers creating their own computing subsystems. 

Other Features of the Chip

Based on Arm’s latest Armv9.2 architecture is for high-end smartphone devices. Its fifth-generation architecture-based GPUs include the recently released Immortalis-G720, Mali-G720, and Mali-G620. The DSU-120, the newest DynamiQ shared unit from Arm, and the new Cortex-4, Cortex-A720, and Cortex-A520 CPUs are all part of the Armv9.2 computing cluster.

Closing Note

Haas remarked in his keynote address that Arm, which has historically provided IP, began to see how long it was taking for IP to integrate with other IPs. Thus, it began by building CPU, memory systems, and computation blocks in order to aid SoC designers before combining, configuring, and validating them to create a complete system.

By “taping out the Cortex-X4 on the TSMC N3E process,” which it calls an industry first, Arm is extending its cooperation with TSMC.
