At the WWDC 2024 conference, Apple announced its suite of artificial intelligence features known as Apple Intelligence. However, unlike previous years, these updates did not coincide with the launch of the iPhone 16 series. Thus, it leaves users eagerly awaiting the rollout of the promised AI capabilities.

New Features in iOS 18.2 Developer Beta

Image Playground: The Image Playground feature allows iOS 18 users to generate images using Apple’s AI model. This standalone app enables users to create images based on their input, with suggestions for costumes, items, or locations derived from conversations in the Messages app or notes. Currently, the images produced are cartoonish and do not achieve photorealistic quality.

Genmoji and Image Wand: The Genmoji feature utilizes AI to create new emojis. In addition, it stores in the emoji keyboard. Users can also generate emojis resembling their friends and family by accessing data from the People album in the Photos app. Additionally, the Image Wand feature allows iPad users to transform rough sketches in the Notes app into fully realized images using simple text prompts.

ChatGPT Integration with Siri: One of the most exciting updates is the integration of ChatGPT with Siri. This enhancement enables Siri to leverage OpenAI’s chatbot for assistance when needed. Apple has assured users that their requests will be anonymized and they will be consulted before any data is sent to ChatGPT. Notably, users do not need to log into their ChatGPT accounts to utilize this feature, although those with a paid subscription can do so.
