The Cupertino-based technology behemoth Apple has disclosed its intentions to introduce an automatic passkey system. With this new feature, users can utilize Face ID or Touch ID rather than conventional passwords to log in to their Apple ID on various Apple sign-in pages, including icloud.com.

Apple has improved consumer ease by streamlining the login process for its websites. Users will now have the choice to merely submit a passkey instead of providing their entire Apple ID information, including PIN and password. This streamlined login option will be available on Apple’s website. In addition, it will provide users with a more convenient way to access their accounts.
How will this work?
The new version will allow customers to check in to any Apple web domain using their Apple ID passkey, claims a statement from Apple. It can also use in conjunction with Apple’s online sign-in feature.
Apple has stated that consumers can now test out the new functionality on iCloud.com and appleid.apple.com. However, they need beta versions of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. With the release of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma later this year, this capability will officially launch for all supported devices.

Passkeys will provide a more convenient and extremely secure password replacement. They rely on a business-implemented industry standard that aims to do away with the necessity for passwords in online authentication.
