Amazon

Amazon has announced the launch of an AI-powered shopping assistant called Rufus. Rufus has undergone extensive training on Amazon’s product catalog and data from the internet. Initially, it will be available in beta to a select group of U.S. customers, with a wider rollout planned in the near future.

Features and Functionality of Amazon AI Assistant

The design of Rufus helps customers with various shopping needs. Users can chat with Rufus inside Amazon’s mobile app. As a result, it will assist with finding products, performing product comparisons, and receiving recommendations on what to buy.

Rufus is a generative AI experience. In addition, it has undergone training on Amazon’s product catalog, customer reviews, community Q&As, and information from the web. This allows Rufus to answer customers’ questions related to their shopping journey. As a result, it will work whether they are at the beginning, trying to narrow down choices or have more specific inquiries.

Customers can ask Rufus questions about various topics. In addition, it includes considerations when buying running shoes, differences between trail and road running shoes, or the durability of specific products.

Rufus can also assist with product comparisons and provide recommendations. For example, customers can ask for gift suggestions for Valentine’s Day or the best dinosaur toys for a five-year-old.

Availability and Feedback

Rufus is initially available in beta to select customers in the U.S. within the Amazon mobile app. Users can access Rufus by tapping a new button in the bottom navigation bar. They can type or speak their questions into the chat dialog box at the bottom of the screen. After interacting with Rufus, customers can return to the Amazon app by swiping down on their screen to dismiss the chat dialog box.

Amazon encourages customers to provide feedback on Rufus by rating the answers with a thumbs up or thumbs down and providing freeform feedback. This feedback will help Amazon improve the product and its generative AI initiatives over time.
