Amazon announced the launch of “X-Ray Recaps,” a generative AI-powered feature. In addition, it creates concise summaries of entire seasons, single episodes, and even parts of episodes.
Additionally, guardrails are in place to ensure the AI doesn’t generate spoilers. As a result, it allows users to fully enjoy their favorite series without the anxiety of stumbling upon unwanted information.
A new feature on Prime Video aims to prevent viewers from encountering spoilers. This will help users as they search for summaries of TV shows on the internet.
Amazon Expansion of Existing Features
This new feature is an expansion of the streamers’ existing X-Ray feature. In addition, it displays information when users pause the screen, such as details about the cast and other trivia.
How to Use X-Ray Recaps
To use Recaps, visit the detail page of a TV show, where a new rewind icon will allow users to select from three choices. Additionally, it includes a recap of the current episode, a recap of the entire season so far, or a recap of the previous season.
Availability and Future Rollout
X-Ray Recaps is currently in beta. Further, it will only be available to Fire TV customers in the U.S. At launch, users can access the feature on all Amazon MGM Studios original titles. Additionally, it includes “Daisy Jones & the Six,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “The Wheel of Time,” and “The Boys.” It will roll out to additional devices at the end of the year.
Technology Behind the Feature
As the company explained in its blog post, the feature leverages a combination of custom AI models (built with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker) to analyze video, subtitles, and dialogue to describe key events, conversations, and other information. In addition, Amazon said that it is fully customizable to align with the exact moment in which users are watching the video. The X-Ray Recaps can provide brief snippets of scenes happening in real-time, whether just a few minutes into an episode, midway through a season or returning to a series they forgot about.
