Instagram is rolling out several new features, including live location sharing, nicknames in DMs, and new sticker packs. The company has introduced the most awaited live location sharing feature. In addition, it will allow users to share their live location with friends in direct messages (DMs) for up to 1 hour. Additionally, users can use this feature to coordinate arrival times or find friends in crowded spaces like concerts or sporting events.
Instagram Live Location Sharing Feature
DM conversations are the only places where users can share their location privately. In addition, a default setting disables live location sharing. The shared location is visible to both parties in the chat. Additionally, users cannot forward it to anyone else.
Instagram will also show an indicator at the top of the chat to indicate that live location sharing is in progress. Furthermore, users can end the location sharing at any time.
The Meta-owned social media platform noted that the location sharing feature is currently only available in select countries, to begin with.
Nicknames in DMs
The other Instagram Feature is the ability to add nicknames in DM conversations. The nickname will only be visible within that specific chat. In addition, it won’t change the user’s username anywhere else on Instagram.
All people followed by the user can change the nickname by default. However, this feature can be fine-tuned to control who can change the nickname. To add a nickname, users can tap on the chat name. In addition, they can click on “Nicknames” to assign a new name for that conversation.
Instagram New Sticker Packs in DMs
Apart from these updates, Instagram is introducing 17 new sticker packs for DMs. As a result, it will provide users with more options to express themselves. Also, the company has added an option to favorite a sticker from the chat. Thus, users can easily access their favorite sticker in future conversations.
