Currently, the app is exclusively available to users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu plans. OpenAI describes this version as an early iteration. In addition, it promises a more comprehensive experience set to roll out later this year.

OpenAI emphasizes that the official ChatGPT desktop app enhances user interaction, stating, “With the official ChatGPT desktop app, you can chat about files and photos.” The app incorporates the latest model advancements. Additionally, it includes access to OpenAI o1-preview, touted as the newest and most intelligent model.

The ChatGPT app for Windows is compatible with most Windows 10 machines. However, users should note that it currently has certain limitations compared to other ChatGPT clients. Furthermore, it does not yet support voice features, including the Advanced Voice Mode. In addition, some integrations with OpenAI’s GPT Store are currently non-functional.
